A restaurant in Seminyak, a beauty salon in Canggu and a villa business need different advertising plans. The restaurant may need bookings for tonight, the salon needs appointments for a specific treatment, and the villa needs enquiries that can take longer to become paid reservations. Start with the offer, service area and customer action. Choose advertising platforms after those decisions.
This guide helps you prepare a brief and assess an agency proposal. The budget calculation is a planning example, not a Bali market benchmark or a promised outcome. For campaign management, our Bali digital advertising service explains the scope and available channels.
Define the customer and the offer first
Write down one offer, its price, available capacity and the person who answers enquiries. A restaurant should check kitchen hours, booking rules and delivery coverage. A salon needs treatment availability, practitioner schedules and supported languages. A villa needs available dates, minimum stays and payment conditions. An advertisement should describe something the business can actually deliver.
Separate people who are already nearby from travellers planning a future trip. Their landing pages, messages and decision times may differ. That does not mean creating a separate campaign for every neighbourhood immediately. First check whether each segment can produce enough demand and useful measurement. A manageable test is usually more informative than many tiny segments with no meaningful evidence.
Google's location targeting documentation describes country, available area and radius targeting. Location detection is not perfectly accurate. Check actual traffic locations after launch rather than treating the selected map boundary as proof of where every customer is.
Which digital advertising channel fits a Bali business?
| Business need | First thing to evaluate | Useful outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Reach people already searching for a service | Google Search, search terms and landing page fit | Qualified enquiries and cost per enquiry |
| Help people find a physical location | Business Profile, Maps, address and opening hours | Calls and directions, separate from verified visits |
| Introduce an experience, treatment or offer | Meta Ads, clear proposition and creative alternatives | Enquiry quality and cost per qualified lead |
| Test demand through short video | TikTok, suitable material and a clear response path | Relevant enquiries, beyond video views |
| Generate delivery orders | GrabFood or GoFood, menu, service area and capacity | Orders and margin after discounts and commissions |
Treat this as a sequence of questions, not a compulsory bundle of platforms. A restaurant video can attract reactions without filling the intended sitting. A salon can receive cheap messages that never become appointments. Agree what makes an enquiry qualified, who checks it and how that status is recorded before deciding which campaign is successful.
Our Google Ads in Bali service covers search campaign structure. For delivery economics, read Grab Ads versus Gojek Ads for Bali restaurants. Delivery orders and table reservations should have separate cost calculations because their margins and fulfilment costs differ.
How much should a test budget be?
Start with the acquisition cost your business can afford, then connect it to the rate at which qualified leads become paying customers. Suppose the allowable advertising cost per new customer is 150,000 IDR and one in five qualified leads buys. The corresponding lead cost target is 150,000 × 20% = 30,000 IDR.
A test aiming to collect 100 qualified leads would therefore have a modelled media budget of 100 × 30,000 = 3,000,000 IDR. This calculation does not predict that an advertising platform will supply that volume at that price. It states a hypothesis that you can test against your economics. Agency fees, creative production and software costs need separate budget lines.
Check the sensitivity of the model. If only 10% of qualified leads buy, the same acquisition cost allows just 15,000 IDR per lead. Raising spend does not automatically solve that gap. Investigate audience quality, offer clarity, landing page friction and response handling. A campaign may be delivering the expected type of enquiry while a slow response process prevents sales.
Do not use total revenue as the amount available for advertising. Product costs, staffing, rent and other expenses still need to be paid. Include repeat purchases only when the business has evidence for them. Agree a maximum test loss and stopping conditions before the first charge, so a disappointing test produces a clear decision rather than an open-ended expense.
Measure the action, not just the word conversion
Define the sequence: click, conversation, qualified lead, completed appointment or order, payment. A qualified lead is an enquiry the team has checked against agreed business criteria. A WhatsApp button click does not prove a message was sent. A direction request does not prove a person arrived at the venue.
Google's conversion measurement guide explains measuring selected customer actions. Name those actions in the report: confirmed appointment, submitted form or call. A single conversion total without its definition can hide very different outcomes between campaigns.
When a CRM is available, keep the enquiry identifier and the available source information. Repeated delivery of the same event should not create another lead. Acceptance of a CAPI event by an advertising platform is not, by itself, proof that a particular creative generated the customer. An ad-level acquisition cost needs verified attribution and matching spend, currency and reporting dates.
A practical launch checklist
- Open the landing page on a phone and complete the enquiry path yourself.
- Check the address, opening hours, pricing, service availability and destination of each form.
- Make sure the responsible employee knows how to record lead quality and the sales outcome.
- Record the baseline, test dates, spending limit and main hypothesis.
- Keep business ownership of advertising and analytics accounts clear.
- Match several real enquiries to the event log, and remove test enquiries from performance reporting.
For physical locations, review Google's local ranking guidance. Accurate business information helps visitors; local organic ranking considers relevance, distance and prominence. Buying ads does not purchase first place in organic Maps results.
After launch, first confirm that enquiries actually reach the team. Then compare quality across offers, ads and languages. Record changes to budgets, landing pages and sales procedures. If everything changes together, the next improvement cannot confidently be assigned to one edit. Compare suitable periods and allow for the delay between an enquiry and a purchase.
What to send an advertising agency
Prepare your website or business profile, service area, main offers, acceptable acquisition cost and any available advertising history. If there is no history, say so: the first stage should establish demand and measurement. Ask for separate media, management and production costs, plus a sample report that defines a result in terms your team can verify.
ALEX-DIGITAL has an office in Bali and works in English, Indonesian and Russian. Discuss your project in Telegram with a short description of the business and its current constraint: too few enquiries, low appointment conversion or unclear acquisition cost. That provides a useful starting point for a test plan and an accountable working relationship.
